Planners comments – Arthur Boyt
The use of two maps of different scales was made possible by Erik Peckett graciously allowing us to use his 1:4000 sprint map version
of the immediate campus area. This enabled us to use the details of buildings, open areas and features present in the 1:4000 map and
mix it with the open farmland and change of gear required by the 1:7500 map. This, without the scale change, was the type of terrain
for both the World Championships and the World Masters Sprint races this year. Although well advertised, no one from the college
took advantage of the opportunity to have a go, as last year.
We are grateful to Duchy College and John Seers, Joe Sims and Richard Griffiths in particular for permission and assistance in holding
the event. My thanks are due to Sue for assistance with the organising and to Erik for guiding me back into the OCAD process and for
allowing me to update his excellent maps. Phil Newall once again did a super job with the printing of the maps. Thanks to Annabelle Pring
and Elsie Hargreaves for taking on the registration when Sue couldn’t make it. My apologies for the lack of extra control descriptions, they
were sitting at home all ready to be used. I am sorry about the poor siting of control numbers on the Jade map. I really don’t know what
happened here, the file sent to Phil is still as it should be; I have no idea how it came to become corrupted. Thank you to Ian Bowles for
going back out into the darkness and mud for some controls. Finally, thank you all for coming and well done for all completing your courses.
