Well
it’s over and done! Quite an experience planning your first orienteering event.
Many thanks to the wonderful support and help that Arthur gave me. I couldn’t
have done it without him. Thank you also to everyone that helped on the day and
to Barry and Phil for loading the event on to the computer and printing the
maps. Many thanks also to everyone who turned up to run the courses, and of
course thanks go to my parents it would have been impossible without them. I
hope you all enjoyed running in the sun. Thanks also to Tim for organising the
helpers on the day. Thanks also go to
everyone who helped collecting controls. Till the next time.
Controller's Comments – Arthur Boyt
The
club’s purchase of OCAD and Sportident, and Andrew’s quick mastery of OCAD were
what enabled this event to take place within the time frame chosen by the
planner. So much wearisome work and so many opportunities to introduce errors
are removed by the computer programme that planning and controlling are greatly
simplified. Andrew is to be congratulated on the courses he set on his maiden
planning adventure and the fact that not one of his customers failed to find
every control. So, well done Andrew and well done everybody. Andrew was
strongly supported and assisted by his parents, so many thanks to them. Thanks
too to Phil Newall for the beautiful printing job done without a murmur despite
being given it at the very last minute. And thanks too to Tim Andrews for his
part in the organising and to the club for filling in where help was needed.
Finally thanks to the control collecting volunteers, James Hargreaves, Peter
Clothier, Tim Andrews and Chris Ranson. No, I had not forgotten the weather,
which chose to put in one day of sunshine in weeks of rain, mist and gales.
Fortune smiled on us for once.
